4 DIY Tricks for Stain Removal

We realize that you can’t call ACME Clean whenever a someone spills wine or one of the kids drops their ketchup-coated french fries onto your carpets. Here are 4 ways to get rid of these occasional stains:

  1. Club Soda: If a party guest gets a little wild, club soda can make the mess disappear. First, blot to remove most of the spilled wine. Apply club soda directly to the area and let sit. Then, blot to absorb as much liquid as possible. If this doesn’t work, try mixing 1-part club soda with 1-part vinegar and repeat the process.
  2. Hydrogen Peroxide: Whether a sports injury or kitchen accident, blood is never a good look for carpets. So, grab the hydrogen peroxide and pour it onto the stained area without saturating it. The bubbling and foaming is a good thing. Blot to absorb the liquid and repeat until the stain is gone. Finish drying with a clean, white cloth.
  3. Shaving Cream: Strange but true, ordinary shaving cream can help with everyday stain removal. Apply it directly to a stain, about an inch thick, and let sit for 15-30 minutes. Now, using a damp sponge, blot the area until the stain and shaving cream residue is gone. Finally, blot with a clean white cloth to soak up any remaining water.
  4. Dish Soap: You wash greasy dishes with it, so why wouldn’t dishwashing liquid be effective on grease stains in carpet? For pizza spills or messes tracked in from the garage, mix a few drops of detergent with a cup of water and spray the affected area. Blot and repeat until it’s grease-free.
