Today, ACME Clean Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning in Denver would like to debunk five myths about cleaning your carpet. Some are old wives’ tales and knowledge handed down from earlier generations. Unfortunately, not everything that our mothers taught us is entirely scientifically correct, much less have an effect on how to go about cleaning your carpet.
Read on to find out about the things you should (or shouldn’t) be worried about!
Myth #1: Intensive cleaning will end up shrinking my carpet.
Properly cleaning your carpet will never cause it to shrink. If you try to do it on your own and leave it too wet, there is a possibility that it will shrink, but a proper professional will never leave your carpet wet enough to shrink when they are finished. If you still feel nervous, just check how dry the carpet is before they leave and discuss your concerns with the technician.
Myth #2: New carpet shouldn’t be cleaned until it is a few years old at least.
While new carpet may take longer to visibly look dirty, it is still getting dirty. In all actuality, leaving carpet dirty can cause it to wear out faster because any dirt trapped in your carpet is abrasive. Also, just because you might not be able to see it yet doesn’t mean that allergens aren’t accumulating in the fibers. This can lead to potentially serious health hazards for you and your family, especially if someone already has allergies or other breathing-related health issues.
Myth #3: Professional carpet cleaning is only necessary if my carpet is ugly and stained.
Going back to myth #2, just because you can’t see the dirt and allergens, doesn’t mean they aren’t there. We recommend having your carpets cleaned professionally at least once a year, particularly if you have small children or pets in your home.
Myth #4: I can clean my carpet just as well with my home machine as with a professional one.
Home machines are perfect for spot cleaning, getting out spills or stains and routine house cleaning. However, they are not nearly as powerful as professional machines and with less suction they can leave behind residue that a professional machine would most surely clean.
Myth #5: All carpet cleaners do the same thing, the cheapest one is best.
As with any service company, there are good professional carpet cleaners, and there are those that cut corners trying to make an extra buck. Don’t go with a lowball offer to save yourself a few dollars. In the end, this could end up costing you a whole lot more in repairs if they damage your carpet!
